Save close to $750 a year on groceries with Woolworths Everyday Rewards

Fact Checked Fact Checked

Woolworths’ Everyday Rewards program is currently offering 3% off the purchase of Woolies gift cards, revealing a new way you can save big on groceries this year.

From now until August 17, Woolworths is offering members of its Everyday Rewards program a 3% discount on Woolworths gift cards purchased through the Everyday Rewards app. These gift cards can then be used to purchase groceries and household essentials from Woolies in-store or online.

Everyday Rewards members can also claim 10% off the cost of one shop per month at Woolworths stores (up to $50 off), which can be used alongside your Woolworths gift cards. By taking advantage of both of these discounts, the average Aussie shopper could potentially save $744 on groceries over a year.

How it works

Here’s how you can make these discounts work for you. Keep in mind that this method requires you to pay for a year’s worth of groceries in advance and shop on a monthly basis, which may not be recommended for your personal circumstances.

1. Estimate your grocery bill

To get the most out of these savings, you’ll want to first estimate the amount you expect to spend on groceries each month. In this example, we’ll use the average monthly grocery bill for Aussies according to our consumer survey: $728.

2. Buy your gift cards

Once you know your average monthly grocery bill, you’ll want to buy 12 gift cards at that amount each. If you’re trying this method on a weekly shopping schedule, simply buy 52 cards at your weekly grocery cost instead, or 26 cards for a fortnightly shop.

3. Do a monthly shop

To get the maximum savings, you’ll want to stick to a monthly shopping schedule and remember to claim the 10% discount each time you shop. By doing this, you stand to save as much as $774 a year on your grocery bill. That’s like getting a month of free groceries just for paying in advance.

If a monthly shopping schedule doesn’t work for your household, you could still benefit from stacking these discounts, although savings will vary. Refer to the table below for an estimate of what you may stand to save.
