It’s a hot topic that draws strongly brewed opinions from almost everyone in Australia, but questions around which coffee is rated best has, for the time being, been put to rest, with Canstar Blue’s 2025 Most Satisfied Customer Awards for coffee revealed.
Through a survey of more than 2,200 coffee lovers, a range of brands across coffee beans, pods and capsules and instant coffee have been rated, with the research showing more of us are enjoying our coffee at home, and making some savings too.

How much could you save by having coffee at home?
Increased costs across many sectors has affected Aussies’ takeaway coffee culture, with over a third (36%) of those surveyed by Canstar Blue saying they have cut down on their spending at coffee shops due to the rising cost of living.
While 54% of Aussies say they need to have a coffee in the morning to help start their day, almost 40% are now making that coffee at home to save money.
Using coffee pods or beans at home can put a significant chunk of change back in your pocket, and for those who drink instant coffee, the savings are even higher. When you compare the prices, with a takeaway coffee at $5.50, and an instant coffee made at home at about $0.25, the difference is $5.25. Multiply that by 365, and you’re saving $1,916.25 per year on coffee.
What is the viral instant coffee hack?
Last year, social media was filled with videos of people making whipped coffee, or Dalgona coffee, at home as an easy way of making instant coffee feel a little more luxurious.
The recipe is simple and the result is a delicious coffee that costs a fraction of what you’d pay for a specialty drink at a cafe.
To make Dalgona coffee, add equal parts instant coffee, sugar and boiling water to a small bowl or mug and whisk until it’s fluffy. Pour your milk of choice, either warm or cold, into a cup, top with the whipped coffee mixture and enjoy the satisfying taste of savings.
