Design

The Pixel Tablet slots nicely into the existing Pixel family, boasting a sleek design with curved edges and an accompanying Charging Speaker Dock. You’ll get a bold 10.95-inch LCD display, with a density of 276 pixels per inch and 500 nits of brightness.

The screen comes with anti-smudge coating, and supports USI 2.0 stylus pen use for easy note-taking, drawing and more (although no sign of a specially-made Google Pen just yet). Flip the device over, and you’ll find the iconic G logo on the back, along with a camera in the top left corner.

Google is offering the tablet in two colours, Porcelain and Hazel, which complement the classic palette used in other Pixel devices, such as the new Google Pixel 7a. Each tablet comes with a matching charging dock that doubles as a speaker and smart home hub, and Google is also launching a range of tablet accessories including cases and ring stands.

Performance and battery

Google has loaded the Pixel Tablet with its powerhouse Tensor G2, the same chip that you’ll find in the Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and new Pixel 7a. The G2 offers AI-powered processing, and was designed by Google to support fast photography, seamless multitasking, and increased battery life.

More than 50 Google apps have been optimised for the Pixel Tablet, with Google Meet in particular working to keep you in frame during video calls and adjust the lighting to suit your surroundings. The tablet also supports split screen mode, allowing you to use two apps at once, plus Google Assistant for fast hands-free help.

Google has designed its tablet with entertainment in mind, and has thrown in Chromecast, a pre-loaded Google TV widget, and Google Play. You’ll also get four built-in speakers, as well as the option to play audio when docked on the included charging speaker.

The Pixel Tablet includes a big 27 watt-hour battery, which offers up to 12 hours of video streaming when fully charged. You can charge the device through the Charging Speaker Dock, or with any USB-C charger.

Cameras

The Pixel Tablet includes an 8-megapixel rear camera, plus another 8-megapixel lens in the front.

While photography isn’t a primary feature on tablets, the Pixel does include most of the camera features you’ll find in the Pixel 7 smartphone, including Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Long Exposure, Night Sight, Panorama and Portrait Mode on the front camera.

Extras, price and availability

The Pixel Tablet works both as a traditional tablet, and as a smart home controller when docked and in Hub Mode. With its easy Google integration, you can use the Pixel to control smart home features such as lighting and security, or make it a voice-activated entertainment hub for TV and music.

Google is throwing in the Charging Speaker Dock with every purchase, so you won’t need to buy a separate dock or speaker to get the most out of your device. The Android tablet includes 8GB of RAM, plus 128GB or 256GB of storage, and is a WiFi-only device (so you won’t be able to insert a data SIM for use away from a WiFi connection).

The Google Pixel Tablet is available in Porcelain and Hazel, and can be pre-ordered now from the Google Store and JB-Hi Fi. It will arrive in stores at JB Hi-Fi and Telstra from June 20, 2023. Prices are below:
