Huawei has been making watches since 2015 (with its first release, the Huawei Watch), and has been somewhat of a pioneer in the smartwatch market. Huawei’s technology has come a long way since that initial launch, making big strides by combining the functionality of a smartwatch with sought-after health and fitness tracking technology, a lot of which can be seen in the Fit 4 series.

The Fit 4 and Fit 4 Pro are the latest in Huawei’s series of fitness-first smartwatches designed to track peak performance in the midst of physical exercise, while still looking sleek and feeling comfortable. The Fit 4 promises a lightweight, compact design, sporting a 1.82-inch HD display and only weighing 27g. Customers opting for the classic model can choose from four different colours, Black, White, Purple and Gray, while those wanting the Fit 4 Pro can choose between a Black, Blue or Green aluminium body with titanium bezels.

As the name suggests, the Fit 4 series is designed mostly for users who want to track their health and fitness data. The watches support a range of exercise tracking with workout logs, over 100 workout specific modes and advanced heart rate, oxygen and calorie monitoring. Huawei has improved its mapping and tracking capabilities, utilising its new ‘Sunflower Positioning’ for a 30% improvement on its previous watches’ mapping and GPS. This gives users who track their outdoor runs or hikes the option to better plan a route and doesn’t require an internet connection to work.

Huawei has optimised the barometer in the Fit 4 series to provide real-time data for various fitness modes like skiing and hiking, allowing users to see their exact environmental information like altitude and ascent.

The Fit 4 Pro comes with an optimised golfing mode for those inclined to hit the green. It has built-in course information for over 1,300 Australian golf courses, giving golf enthusiasts the chance to track distance, wind speed and direction and offers the option for a post-game report to analyse your performance. Those who prefer open water to the golf course, can utilise the Fit 4 Pro to free dive up to 40m. Huawei has included safe diving alerts to remind divers when they have reached potentially unsafe conditions, hover times, water type identification and daily underwater training to improve diving performance by tracking breath holding, heart rate and blood oxygen levels.

Along with being able to track over 100 different types of exercise and water sports, Huawei’s new watches are better able to track general health more. For the first time, Huawei users can track their menstrual cycle and emotional wellbeing and get detailed reports and reminders for both. The Fit 4 series has also improved on its earlier model’s sleep health tracking, giving users the ability to monitor their sleep health habits such as BPM, blood oxygen level and sleep cycles to receive recommendations based on these.

A standout feature among the Fit 4 series is battery life and charging speeds. The standard Fit 4 will charge to full battery in approximately 75 minutes and has the capability to last users up to 10 days without charging under specific tested conditions. The Pro is even faster to charge, taking 60 minutes to charge to full battery life. Both versions have an average battery of seven days, meaning users can utilise most functions for a week without needing to charge.

Despite having its own operating system, HarmonyOS, both original and pro models are able to connect to Apple devices with iOS 13 or later installed and Android devices with Android 8.0 or later installed, though users may find not all features are compatible among all devices.
