No one is safe: Even ALDI Mobile is increasing phone plan prices

Fact Checked Fact Checked

ALDI Mobile has confirmed it will adjust prices across its prepaid plan ranges from late September, with customers set to pay up to $4 more per month.

The popular SIM-only telco is the latest mobile provider to hike plan prices in recent months, joining big names including Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.

ALDI Mobile will increase prices on its $20 30-day plan as well as three of its 365-day plan packs. The telco is also scrapping its lowest-priced $19 plan, meaning its cheapest product going forward will now be $23 per 30-day recharge.

Selected plans will also offer unlimited international calls and texts to 20 select countries, plus up to 400 minutes of talk to a further 30 countries.

All plans include coverage on the Telstra nationwide network, with 30-day plans of $29 per recharge and above also including 5G access (speed caps apply). Customers will still have the option to set up auto-recharge across all plans, and can cancel their service or switch to a different plan at any time.

What current ALDI Mobile customers should know

If you’re currently on one of the impacted ALDI Mobile plans, the changes will apply to your service from September 24. Here’s a quick summary of what customers can expect.

Discontinued plans ($19 Mobile Plan, $25 Mobile Plan, and $199 Super Pack)

Customers with auto-recharge enabled will automatically be moved from the $19 plan to the $23 plan, or  from the $199 Super Pack to the $299 Super Pack. If you have auto-recharge set to OFF, you’ll need to manually select a new plan option on the ALDI Mobile app or online portal.

If you’re on the $25 30-day plan, you’ll be able to remain on your service and renew it for the foreseeable future — it’s only being withdrawn for new customers. However, if you switch to another ALDI Mobile plan, you won’t be able to go back to the $25 option later.

Plans increasing in price ($20 Mobile Plan, $119 Super Pack, $169 Super Pack)

Customers with auto-recharged enabled will be automatically charged the new price from the first recharge after September 24. If you’re not using auto-recharge, you’ll need to select a new plan on the ALDI Mobile app or through the telco’s customer portal.

Any increased data inclusions will also apply to your plan from your first recharge after September 24. You’ll also have access to your saved rollover data across all the new plans and prices, provided you’ve recharged within 24 hours of your previous plan’s expiry and you haven’t moved to a lower-priced plan.

Should customers cancel their ALDI Mobile plan?

ALDI Mobile joins a growing list of prepaid and postpaid telcos making significant mobile plan changes this year. Optus increased prices by $3 per month in April, while Telstra’s postpaid plans spiked by up to $5 per month in July. Vodafone has also quietly raised plan prices for new customers, with all three of its postpaid plans increasing by $4 monthly.

As a provider with a reputation for low-cost plans, ALDI’s move is set to ruffle feathers among its value-conscious customer base. ALDI Mobile is currently one of the only providers still offering a 30-day or monthly plan for under $20, alongside Lebara’s $19.90 and TeleChoice’s $19 prepaid plans.

For low data users who just want reliable and affordable access to talk and text, the option to pay less than $20 every month or recharge is almost a thing of the past.

ALDI Mobile still offers a pay-as-you go (PAYG) starter kit for $5, which allows users to add $15, $25 or $35 of credit at any time, all of which comes with a 365-day expiry. However, PAYG rates are as follows:

  • Standard calls: 15c/minute
  • Standard SMS: 15c/SMS
  • Data: 6c/megabyte

Under this pricing, a 30-minute phone call will cost customers $4.50. Make five of these in a month, and you’re already paying $22.50 just for your voice calls alone. So a move to an old-school PAYG plan could end up costing you more than a cheap plan with included unlimited talk and text, especially if you’re a serious yapper.

Even with the upcoming changes, ALDI Mobile still offers a competitive plan range when compared to bigger name, higher-priced telcos. The telco is also well-rated by its customers, winning Canstar Blue’s 2025 Most Satisfied Customers Award for Prepaid Mobile, as well as our 2025 Most Trusted Mobile Plan Provider award. But if you’re concerned about ALDI Mobile’s price rise, now is a great time to shop around and see what else is available.
