OPPO’s A98 5G packs in premium features at a budget-friendly price

Hot on the heels of the stunning new OPPO Reno 10 5G, OPPO has added another phone to its budget-friendly A series. But this time, there’s a little more packed in than the OPPO A78 5G, which was released earlier in the year.

Featuring a range of flagship features but for the more affordable price of $649 AUD RRP, the OPPO A98 5G has a lot to offer if you’ve been looking for a little more value for money in a smartphone.

“The OPPO A98 5G goes beyond meeting user expectations, delivering a smartphone experience that exceeds all boundaries. With its combination of premium features, top-tier battery performance, and immersive capabilities, the A98 5G outshines its entry-level category,” said Michael Tran, OPPO Australia’s Managing Director.

OPPO A98 5G: Features and specs

Much like its more recent A series and Reno series phones, the OPPO A98 5G includes OPPO’s signature Glow Design finish on the back. It’s a smooth finish that resists fingerprints, and the blue version shimmers in the light creating a stunning rainbow effect. The A98 5G comes in both Cool Black and Dreamy Blue colourways.

One of the A98’s big features is its fast charging capabilities using the 67W SUPERVOOC fast charger. OPPO touts that you’re able to charge the 5,000mAh battery to 100% in 44 minutes, while five minutes of charge (using the fast charger) can give you enough of a boost for six hours of phone calls, or 2.5 hours of YouTube streaming.

Fully charged, its big battery can support up to 16 hours of YouTube streaming or 8.4 hours of gaming. While this might sound like a bit of a strain on the battery, OPPO’s Battery Health Engine will allow the A98 5G to maintain 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 charging cycles — that’s about four years of charging, if you charge the phone once every single day.

OPPO has also included some impressive cameras in the mix. The rear cameras include a 64MP AI main camera, a 2MP depth camera and a 2MP Microlens, which can capture microscopic details with up to 40 times magnification. You’ll also get a 32MP selfie camera, along with a range of photo and video modes. These include Ultra Night Mode which reduces noise and increases image clarity, along with portrait mode, Flash Snapshot and dual-view video.

The OPPO A98 5G comes with a 6.72 inch FHD+ display with up to 120Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G processor, along with 256GB of internal storage and up to 1TB of expandable micro SD storage. It comes with 8GB of RAM; however, with OPPO’s RAM Expansion technology, it can convert up to 8GB of unused ROM storage temporarily into RAM storage, which can essentially double the amount of RAM available.

You can pick up the OPPO A98 5G for $649 AUD RRP from a range of retailers, including the OPPO online store, JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks.
