Dyson V15 Detect range wins Canstar Blue Innovation Excellence Award (Appliances)
Dyson’s V15 Detect range has received Canstar Blue’s Innovation Excellence Award (Cleaning Appliances) for 2022. This award recognises smart innovations in home appliances and consumer electronics and is awarded based on Canstar Blue’s sophisticated rating methodology under which winners are scored on a range of factors, including whether the product is unique and how disruptive it is to its product category. Other factors considered are affordability, ease of use, and impact on the average consumer.
Dyson Founder and Chairman, Sir James Dyson, said: “As engineers our job is to solve daily problems, and the past 12 months has created plenty of new ones with more time spent indoors. We are all cleaning more frequently, trying to remove the additional house dust but desperate for peace of mind that our homes are truly clean.”
“Our latest vacuums use laser technology to reveal hidden dust, integrating a diode laser into the cleaner head that is precisely positioned at a 1.5° angle to create the best contrast between dust and floor. We don’t think detection is enough, so we remove and meticulously size and count the particles 15,000 times a second using an acoustic piezo sensor which converts vibrations into electrical signals, displaying precisely the size and number of particles sucked up on an LCD at the back of the vacuum.”
What is the Dyson V15 Detect?
The Dyson V15 Detect range offers arguably the most powerful and intelligent Dyson cordless vacuums to date, including the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute and Dyson V15 Detect Complete. The range is featured packed with all the latest technology in home cleaning, including a laser that highlights hidden dust on hard floors, an LCD screen that shows reports of performance in real-time, whole HEPA filtration (on the Dyson V15 Complete) to trap microscopic dirt, and an improved hair screw tool with a cone-shaped brush designed to ‘spiral’ hair off, fixing the common pain point of untangling long hair from the vacuum head. The range also offers up to 60 minutes of runtime, three power modes (Auto, Eco & Boost), a 0.77L dustbin, a click-in battery, and all standard specs and accessories you’d expect from a Dyson vacuum.
The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute retails for $1,499 RRP, while the Dyson V15 Complete (with whole HEPA filtration) comes at $1,549 RRP. Both are available at Dyson.com.au as well as from Dyson Demo stores.
What we like about the Dyson V15 Detect
Judges noted the ‘wow’ factor when considering the Dyson V15 Detect range’s dust detection laser which is capable of searching out and removing hidden dust particles as small as 10 microns (i.e. pet dander and diesel soot). The ability to detect and remove particles that would otherwise go undetected is of benefit to a large subsection of consumers.
“The Dyson V15 Detect range comes with genuinely useful features and attachments to help consumers create a healthier living environment for themselves and their loved ones,” said Canstar Blue’s Home & Lifestyle Editor, Megan Birot.
“The range helps households tackle dust, dirt, and allergens with insane precision, and simultaneously solves some common bugbears like untangling hair from the brush head and struggling to reach nooks and crannies, thanks to the up-top adaptor that bends and locks at different angles.”
Laser dust detection
Dyson’s new-generation V15 Detect cordless vacuum cleaners feature a sophisticated green laser detector that illuminates dust and airborne particles on hard floors you can’t normally see to make them visible to the naked eye. This helps users achieve a deeper clean – a remarkable solution for asthma and allergy sufferers, as well as households with pets and children. The diode laser integrated into the Dyson V15 Detect cleaner head is precisely positioned at a 1.5° angle to create the best contrast between dust and floor. Dust always reflects light but it can only be noticed if the contrast is high enough, which Dyson has engineered for the V15 Detect range.
Acoustic dust sensing
Aside from laser microscopic dust detection, the Dyson V15 Detect range also boasts an acoustic piezo sensor that meticulously measures and counts particles sucked into the vacuum, up to 15,000 times per second for real-time reporting. Each unit automatically increases suction power across different floor types and dust amounts based on these readings. When dust enters the vacuum, it hits the acoustic piezo sensor within the bin inlet that converts the tiny vibrations into electrical signals which are then read and displayed on the in-built LCD screen in real-time. This shows how much dust the vacuum has removed, as well as the different-sized particles (with four size categories).
Improved anti-tangle hair screw tool
The Dyson V15 Detect range also solves the problem of removing hair on the brush bar. It features a new and improved hair screw tool with an anti-tangle conical brush bar that ‘spirals’ hair off the brush head and into the bin. This helps prevent the common issue of hair wrapping around the brush bar when vacuuming. Dyson says it’s tweaked the angle of the bristles on the tool to ensure the release force doesn’t tangle the hair. The new hair screw tool (which comes with various other Dyson attachments) was engineered to pick up both long hair and pet hair, and also works on multiple hair types.
“The Dyson V15 Detect range comes with genuinely useful features and attachments to help consumers create a healthier living environment for themselves and their loved ones.”
