How we rate bleach

Our review compares bleaches on customer satisfaction, so you can find out what other Aussies think about the compared brands before you go ahead with a purchase. Think of it as like asking hundreds of your closest mates which bleach they think is best!

Canstar Blue surveyed 1,483 Australians for their feedback on the bleach(es) they’ve purchased and used in the last 12 months.

  • The outcomes reported in these ratings are measured via accredited research panels managed by Qualtrics.

Respondents rate their satisfaction with their bleach brand(s) from zero to ten, where zero is extremely dissatisfied and ten is extremely satisfied. Brand satisfaction was rated by respondents on the following criteria:
  • Overall satisfaction: measures consumer satisfaction with a bleach brand as an individual score NOT a combined total of all criteria.
  • Effectiveness: the bleach was effective in cleaning multiple areas and surfaces (i.e. removing dirt, grime, build-up and soap stains etc.).
  • Value for money: the cost is reasonable for the quality and performance of the bleach.
  • Ease of use: the bleach was easy to use, with sufficient instructions provided.
  • Packaging convenience: the bleach was easy to open and store.
  • Scent: the bleach has a pleasant odour that matches the description (i.e. ocean breeze, etc.).

The winning brand is the one that receives the highest Overall satisfaction rating once all the scores from the Overall satisfaction criteria are combined and averaged.

  • Overall satisfaction is asked as a specific question and represents an individual measure, not a combined total of all criteria.
  • When we cannot determine a clear winner from the criteria for the Overall satisfaction rating, we will then look at the other criteria measured in the rating.
    • The brand with the highest number of five-star ratings within the supporting criteria will become the five-star recipient in overall satisfaction, and thus win the award. If a clear leader still cannot be determined from the supporting criteria, joint winners will be declared.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included, so not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The brands rated in this survey are listed below in order of best overall satisfaction.

  1. ALDI Power Force
  2. Woolworths Essentials
  3. Domestos
  4. White King
  5. Coles Ultra

Top Bleach Brand ─ ALDI Power Force

Best ALDI bleach

Bleach is another item you can add to your basket from ALDI, with the supermarket offering its own line-up under the ‘Power Force’ range. From multi-purpose cleaner and disinfectants, the Power Force may be the sidekick you’re after when it comes to cleaning the house from top to bottom. The ALDI Power Force bleach is a hospital-grade disinfectant that claims to kill 99.9% of germs, as well as removes dirt, mould and odours, with the product coming in a 1.25L bottle.

  • ALDI Power Force was rated five stars for effectiveness, value for money, ease of use, packaging convenience and overall satisfaction, with four stars for scent.

Does bleach kill mould?

Despite being considered a high-concentration cleaning product, bleach isn’t considered effective in killing mould. Instead of removing the mould, bleach often simply removes the melanin (what gives it its colour) of the mould, which then gives the impression that the surface is clean, rather than it actually being clean. However, some believe that a higher-concentration bleach does kill mould, although you do potentially run the risk of ruining the material your cleaning as well. As a result, if you’re looking to remove mould, it’s best to stick to dedicated mould-remover products or trusted home remedies such as vinegar.
