What is Samsung Care?

Samsung Care is Samsung’s product insurance. By owning a Samsung product, you get access to a range of services including installation help, health checks, and repairs. The plan offers a wide variety of services to choose from, plenty of which aren’t related to help with your mobile phone. Samsung Care mostly caters to the range of Samsung appliances and electronics.

What does Samsung Care cover for Samsung phones?

The Standard Benefits of the Samsung Care include mobile repairs within 24 hours on select devices, however the premium benefits include:

  • Television health checks
  • Refrigerator health checks
  • Washing machine health checks
  • Heat pump dryer health checks

These health checks come in the form of a six-month courtesy call, as well as maintenance visits. Samsung is no longer including Samsung Care Premium on products purchased after January 1, 2024.

How much does Samsung Care cost?

Samsung Care is actually a free service, in which simply being a Samsung product owner will afford you the benefits. Samsung Care+ (or Samsung Care Plus), however, does have an associated cost.

What is Samsung Care+?

Samsung Care+ is an add-on service (not product insurance) where you can swap out broken or damaged devices for a new one, for a fee. A two-year subscription allows you to swap two devices in that two-year period, and you only have to pay the swap fee each time on top of the subscription cost.

How much does Samsung Care+ cost?

The prices for subscriptions are as follows for the eligible devices in the Samsung Care+ range:

  • Galaxy S series: Two year subscription cost of $249, one-year subscription cost of $129, swap fee of $149, mobile refresh fee of $45

How does Samsung Care compare to AppleCare+?

Samsung Care and Samsung Care+ together essentially offer what AppleCare+ offers in its entirety. The services are very similar in both benefits and pricing. The free nature of Samsung Care is a huge bonus for Samsung fans, as Apple has ditched its free repairs and replacement services of old. The Swap Fees on top of Samsung Care Plus subscription fees will stack up to be a bit more expensive than Apple’s pricing model, however both Samsung Care and AppleCare offer very similar insurance services.

Is Samsung Care+ worth it?

Samsung Care is, as a free service, most likely going to be worth it thanks to its range of benefits to Samsung users. However, Samsung Care+ is a little bit trickier to weigh up in terms of its justifiability. On the one hand, we rely so heavily on technology nowadays that ensuring we are protected financially is crucial. However on the other hand, Samsung Care+ costs are steep, and for the careful device holder, may not actually be necessary. Ultimately you’re paying for peace of mind, so if you’re a worrier or accident prone, Samsung Care+ might be worth the cost, however it’s important to understand your rights under consumer law to ensure you’re not paying for a service you might not need.
