There’s no doubt that Australians love their coffee – and love making their own coffee. Canstar Blue’s recent research of 865 Australian adults found that the majority (53%) prefer the coffee they make using their espresso machine to those they buy from a café.
A brief history of Breville
This company has interesting beginnings in radio of all places; the two founders Bill O’Brien and Harry Norville scraped together enough money to build and sell radios to families in the 1930s. The radios were the center of family life – it was both entertainment and a connection with the rest of the world.
When TV came onto the scene in 1951, the radio division was sold and Breville focused on innovation for everyday living. To continue doing this, Bill’s son John established a research and development centre to continue this innovation, design, and invention.
The research and development centre became the birthplace of many iconic Breville appliances such as their Kitchen Wizz food processor, the Snack ‘n Sandwich maker, and of course, their coffee machines.

The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who had purchased and used an espresso machine within the last three years – in this case, 865 Australians.
