Moto G84 5G phone in Marshmallow Blue

Motorola’s Moto G84 5G is a luxe-feel phone for under $400

Just in time for the gift-giving season, Motorola has dropped a new addition to its popular, value-packed Moto G series. The Moto G84 5G is a striking smartphone with a big display, all-day battery and 5G connectivity – all for under $400.

The newest Moto handset is a must-see for Aussies wanting premium style at an affordable price. The Moto G84 5G’s launch also marks ten years since the mid-range Moto G line first arrived in Australia.

“We are proud to have sold over 200 million Moto G units worldwide since 2013 and it is clear that consumers are continuing to look for more budget-friendly options without compromising on features or sacrificing on design,” said Kurt Bonnici, Head of Motorola Greater Asia Pacific.

“Alongside the recently launched Moto G14 and Moto G54 5G, the Moto G84 5G completes Motorola’s Moto G family new additions for 2023, giving consumers access to the latest technology at a range of accessible price points and in an array of colour options and finishes.”

Motorola G84 5G: Features and specs

Coming in at just $399 RRP, the Moto G84 5G maintains a premium design, and it’s the first Moto G phone to be available in the 2023 Pantone Colour of the Year, Viva Magenta. Both the Viva Magenta and Marshmallow Blue editions feature a vegan leather finish, while the more traditional Midnight Blue option comes with a matte back in a subtle shimmering blue.

The Moto G84 5G features an ultrawide 6.5-inch Full HD+ pOLED display, with an infinite contrast ratio that delivers deep blacks and vivid colours. The screen also includes a fast 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling, and up to 1,300 nits of brightness even in direct sunlight. The cinematic visual experience is complemented by the inclusion of Dolby Atmos audio and Spatial Sound, which provides an immersive experience over headphones or speakers.

Motorola has packed in a 2.2Ghz Snapdragon 685 5G processor, offering a speedy performance across everyday tasks. Combine this with the device’s 12GB of RAM, and buyers should have no issues with multi-tasking, general gaming, and fast 5G use. The Moto G84 5G also comes with a 5,000mAh battery, which provides up to 30-plus hours of use from a full recharge, along with an included 30W fast charger.

While the Moto G84 5G’s cameras can’t compare with the superior setups found on the Motorola Edge 40 or Motorola Razr 40 lineups, you’ll still get great value for money. In the rear, you’ll find a 50-megapixel main camera with Ultra Pixel technology for brighter, clearer shots in low light, plus an 8-megapixel Ultrawide camera which also includes Macro and Depth sensors. The combination Ultrawide/Macro/Depth lenses have you covered for wide shots, 4x closeups, and perfectly Bokeh-ed portrait photography, while the 16-megapixel front-facing camera offers fast focus for sharp selfies.

Motorola has also thrown in a bevy of photography features to enhance your snaps, including slow motion and hyperlapse, Shot Optimisation (which uses AI to suggest the right settings for your subject and environment) and Dual Capture to use the rear and front cameras simultaneously. There’s also HDR and Pro Modes, Night Vision, and Portrait Mode for effective background blurs.

The Moto G84 5G offers a range of personalisation and security features, including its customisable My UX interface. You can switch from your phone to your TV or desktop monitor thanks to Moto Connect, set up a kid-friendly safe space on your device with Family Space, and lock down your important apps and data with Moto Secure.

Rounding out the device’s key features, the Moto G84 5G runs Android 13, includes face recognition and fingerprint scanning for extra security, and features an IP54 water-repellant design. You’ll get 256GB of built-in storage, plus up to 1TB of expandable storage via the microSD card slot.

The new Moto G84 5G is available now for $399 RRP from JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Officeworks, The Good Guys, Bing Lee, Big W and Amazon online. You can pick up the G84 5G in Viva Magenta and Midnight Blue from all retailers, or in Marshmallow Blue exclusively from JB Hi-Fi.
