Which iPhone do you want a plan for?

Aussie telcos that offer iPhone plans

The newest iPhone isn’t always the best iPhone for you. You might find that an older device is better suited to your needs, especially if you’re on a tighter budget. The newest iPhones are typically more expensive than the older counterparts, but you can save hundreds by picking up last year’s model rather than the very latest Apple release (and still grab a great phone with premium features!).

If you are after the newest iPhone, the iPhone 13 series with its 5G connectivity, there are four different devices to choose from: the base iPhone 13, it’s smaller counterpart the iPhone 13 Mini, the more premium iPhone 13 Pro and the larger  premium iPhone 13 Pro Max.

If you’re looking for iPhone plans, depending on your choice of telco, there’s currently several models of iPhone available to pick up on plans, including:

  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 Mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 Mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone Xs Max
  • iPhone Xs
  • iPhone XR

iPhone pricing is rarely ‘cheap’ — but depending on your choice of provider and plan, you can find ways to pay less each month for your brand new device. Most iPhone plans currently begin from around the $90-$100 per month mark for both your mobile plan and phone payment, but prices will vary due to your choice of device repayment term.

Excluding device payments, the postpaid phone plans that you bundle with your iPhone start at $45 from Optus with 10GB data, $40 from Vodafone with 10GB of data or $55 from Telstra with 40GB data. Optus, Telstra and Vodafone each include unlimited data. Optus and Telstra’s speeds after you use up all your data are 1.5Mbps, whereas Vodafone’s speeds depend on the plan you’re on, and are higher the more you pay. Vodafone does offer a plan with unlimited full-speed data and no speed caps, priced at $85 per month.

Finding the best iPhone plan is all about finding a plan that will best suit your needs. If you’re a light data user, or you rarely use your mobile data, a cheap and low-data iPhone plan might be the best option. If you stream a lot of high-definition video on the go, you might need a plan with a minimum of 100GB of data.

Telstra, Optus and Vodafone all have iPhone plans ranging in data inclusions, so you’ll want to compare what each telco has on offer to help you determine which carrier has the best iPhone plan for your needs.

For the more moderate data users, there are some good phone plan deals at the cheaper end of the spectrum, with some decent data inclusions.

Looking for the iPhone 13 series on a plan from Telstra? Telstra offers a great selection of Apple devices including the iPhone 13 series and iPhone 12 series, along with the iPhone SE and some stock of the iPhone 11.

Telstra also allows you to separate your iPhone payments from your plan. Devices are available on 12-month, 24-month and 36-month payment periods, and can be bundled with one of the four month-to-month mobile plans on offer. Technically you’re not locked into a contract on these plans, however cancelling altogether will require you to pay off the remainder of your handset.

Optus stocks the latest devices including the iPhone 13 series and iPhone 12 series, along with the iPhone SE and iPhone 11. Older devices are no longer available from the telco. If you’re considering picking up a new iPhone from Optus, you can buy your device on a 12, 24 or 36-month payment plan, which is separated from your mobile service.

Vodafone customers can choose from a range of devices including the iPhone 13 series, the iPhone 12 series, the iPhone SE and you may be able to fine stocks of the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR. These devices are available on Vodafone’s phone repayment plans, with your choice of contract length over 12, 24 or 36 months.

Once you’ve selected your device, you’ll be required to add on a postpaid plan. These plans are separate to your device repayments and they are month-to-month plans. This means you can switch your plan to another of the month-to-month plans, however cancelling will require you to pay off the remaining cost of your handset.
