Telstra Plus Rewards Explained

Fact Checked Fact Checked

Telcos don’t just offer phone and internet plans anymore — coupled with these are extras, bonuses and rewards, with Telstra one of the standout providers in this respect.

Telstra may be one of the most expensive providers in the country, but that price comes with some serious perks, notably Telstra Plus Rewards. No doubt if you’re a Telstra customer you’ve heard of the rewards program, where you can pick up new phones and gadgets based on points. Learn all you need to know about Telstra Plus rewards with this Canstar Blue guide.

What is Telstra Plus?

Telstra Plus is a rewards program reserved only for Telstra customers, where you can earn points based on your spending with Telstra. These points can contribute towards items in the rewards store. Telstra Plus is free to join and you can earn 10 points for every eligible $1 spent. There are also special member offers which you can use to earn bonus points, however keep in mind some Telstra sales won’t contribute to your points.

Telstra Plus ‘eligible spend’

‘Eligible spend’ is spending with Telstra that contributes to Telstra Plus points. Telstra has broken eligible spend down into these categories (terms apply):

  • Your payment for services
  • Your payment for recharge
  • The paid component of Points, Pay or Points and Repayment purchases

Should I sign up with Telstra?

Telstra Plus is a pretty good reason to sign up for a plan with Telstra. On top of this loyalty program, there are a bunch of other features for customers of Australia’s biggest telco.

Mobile Plans

Postpaid mobile plan customers can enjoy massive data inclusions, and customers on all plans (except the Small plan) can enjoy access to the Telstra 5G network (provided that it’s in your area). There are no lock-in contracts and no excess data charges, with every plan technically including ‘unlimited’ data, albeit speed-capping once you go over your monthly data allowance.

Prepaid plans are also available over a range of expiry periods. All plans come with a prepaid SIM plus unlimited calls and texts. If you’d like to compare Telstra mobile plans to the competition across both postpaid and prepaid categories, see the tables below.

Here is a selection of postpaid plans from Canstar Blue’s database with a minimum of 10GB of data, listed in order of standard cost, lowest to highest, then by data allowance, largest to smallest. NBN Plans

As for NBN plans, Telstra offers four speed tiers — 25, 50, 100 and 250. You can pick up any plan with optional entertainment inclusions but be aware that entertainment and gaming add-ons will incur additional monthly charges. You’ll get a Telstra Smart Modem if you need, which you can pay off over the course of the plan. There are no additional connection fees.
