Telstra Plus Rewards Explained

Telcos doesn’t just offer phone plans anymore — coupled to these are exciting extras, bonuses and rewards, with Telstra one of the standout providers in this respect.

Telstra may be one of the most expensive providers in the country, but that price comes with some serious perks, notably Telstra Plus. No doubt if you’re a Telstra customer you’ve heard of the rewards program, where you can pick up new phones and gadgets based on points. But if not, or if you’re unsure what it’s all about, we’ll cover all the details you might want to know in this guide.

What is Telstra Plus?

Telstra Plus is a rewards program reserved only for Telstra customers, where you can earn points based on your spending with Telstra. Simply put, you earn points based on your ‘eligible spend’ and you can use these points towards items in the rewards store. Telstra Plus is free to join, and you can earn 10 points for every eligible $1 spent with Telstra. There are also special member offers, which you can use to earn bonus points, however keep in mind some Telstra sales won’t contribute to your points.

What is ‘eligible spend’?

‘Eligible spend’ is spending with Telstra that contributes to Telstra Plus points. Telstra has broken eligible spend down into three categories (terms apply):

  • Paying off a monthly bill for a Telstra service (after any discounts are applied)
  • Recharging a prepaid Telstra service
  • Buying a mobile handset or any hardware through Telstra monthly payments

If you’ve been thinking about signing up for Telstra, be it on a postpaid or prepaid mobile plan, or a broadband plan, we’ve put together a table of the available Telstra plans from our database below.

Should I sign up with Telstra?

Telstra Plus is a pretty good reason to sign up for a plan with Telstra, but on top of this loyalty program, there are a bunch of other features for customers of Australia’s biggest telco.

Mobile Plans

Postpaid mobile plan customers can enjoy massive data inclusions, and customers on all plans except the Small plan, can enjoy access to the Telstra 5G network (provided that it’s in your area). There are no lock-in contracts and no excess data charges, with every plan technically including ‘unlimited’ data, albeit speed-capped at 1.5Mbps once you go over your monthly data allowance.

Prepaid plans are also available over a range of expiry periods. All plans come with a prepaid SIM plus unlimited calls and texts. If you’d like to compare Telstra mobile plans to the competition across both postpaid and prepaid categories, see the tables below.

Here is a selection of postpaid plans from Canstar Blue’s database with a minimum of 10GB of data, listed in order of standard cost, lowest to highest, then by data allowance, largest to smallest. NBN Plans

As for NBN plans, Telstra offers three speed tiers — 25, 50 and 100. You can pick up any plan with optional entertainment inclusions, such as Telstra TV and the Games Optimiser. Be aware that entertainment and gaming add-ons will incur additional monthly charges. You can also pick up Xbox All Access with Telstra, which is a great option if you’re a gamer and want one of the new consoles, or a console from the previous generation. You’ll get a Telstra Smart modem if you need, which you can pay off over the course of the plan, and there are no additional connection fees.
