GloBird Energy removes its low rates to new customers in NSW, QLD and SA

An independent energy provider has removed its low rates on offer in New South Wales, south east Queensland and South Australia despite being in the midst of an intense price war in Victoria.

New customers who sign up to GloBird Energy’s GloSave and EasySave plans will pay higher prices due to an increase to the usage and supply rates – two of the main charges found in power bills.

These changes come after the retailer currently battles fellow independent provider ReAmped Energy in offering customers record-low electricity prices across Victoria.

It’s price changes like these that reinforce why it’s so important for customers in market for a new deal to check the finer details of an energy plan before signing up, said Canstar Blue’s Energy Editor, Jared Mullane.

“GloBird has removed its low rates available to new customers and the new rates they are advertising are around 20 per cent higher than the ones they were advertising only a week ago,” he said.

“Price and product movements aren’t uncommon during this time of year where default prices are set to drop in most states.”

The costly prices customers pay on standing offers, formerly known as the default market offer (DMO), are set to fall on 1 July 2021 for households and small businesses in NSW, SE QLD and SA. Though default tariffs are about to become cheaper, these changes won’t guarantee price reductions for a majority of customers already on competitive market offers.

“Fortunately for consumers, Canstar Blue collects a range of data from power providers which enables us to regularly check for price increases and decreases, like these recent changes from GloBird,” Mr Mullane added.

While both of GloBird Energy’s products have variable rates, the GloSave plan still features conditional discounts for paying on time and by direct debit. Customers signing up to the EasySave deal will need to commit to email billing as well as online communication.
