How to watch Westworld in Australia

Can you afford to purchase a ticket? Well, if you haven’t jumped aboard the Westworld hype train yet (or dived head-first into the exclusive amusement park), consider this a sign: Westworld is calling your name. How can robotic, time-travelling cowboys not be your next favourite thing?

Known famously for its Inception-styled complexity – the characters jump between timelines, alliances and even bodies – Westworld is an American sci-fi thriller and the brainchild of power couple Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. The entire TV show (at least, for the first few seasons) takes place in the fictional amusement park ‘Westworld’ where the rich can live and indulge without limits and consequences (we’re talking pretty much anything).

The Wild-West-themed park is home to ‘hosts’: lifelike robots who pass as humans and are available to the guests to live out all their fantasies. Starring Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Ed Harris, James Marsden, and in later seasons, Aaron Paul, it’s easy to see how Westworld has remained one of the most popular shows on television right now.

Of course, there’s always a catch. Unfortunately for us Aussies, the show originated from the American TV network HBO which means we can’t easily catch it. Thankfully though, Foxtel’s sister streaming service BINGE is now playing ‘host’ (heh) to all seasons of Westworld, available to stream on-demand now.

Westworld on Foxtel

Foxtel is pretty much the Aussie go-to for all things HBO, so it’s no surprise that all three seasons of Westworld are available to stream on the platform. The fourth season will be available to stream from June 27, 2022. In saying this, Foxtel definitely comes at a higher price. Whilst BINGE will only cost you a minimum of $10 per month (and a maximum of $18), to stream Westworld on Foxtel you’ll need to subscribe to Foxtel Now which will set you back $25/month. If you’re thinking about Foxtel, but aren’t too sure what is on offer, it may also be worth exploring Foxtel Packages.

Westworld on iTunes

If you like the idea of checking out Westworld but aren’t ready to commit to a streaming subscription (it takes time to make these decisions), then you may want to go old school and check out Westworld on iTunes. You can purchase individual episodes for $3.99 each, the first two seasons for $32.99 each or the third season for $26.99. Alternatively, you can go the whole hog and pick up a boxset of seasons one to three for $59.99.

What is Westworld about?

Based on the 1973 film of the same name, Westworld is a story of artificial intelligence gone wrong/robotic, cowboys/Inception/a sci-fi love story. The show is set at an unspecified time in the future, in the man-made amusement park appropriately named ‘Westworld’. The ‘hosts’ are designed to cater to the high-paying guests of the park and to be used by guests to indulge in otherwise illegal or unethical activities.

Each time a host dies, their memory disappears – until one day, it doesn’t. Enter host ‘Dolores’ (played by Evan Rachel Wood) who eventually discovers her entire life is an elaborate lie and sets off to unearth the truth and escape her imprisonment within the park. Each season is a gripping watch from the start to finish, and season three with Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul sets off in another new direction entirely. We won’t say any more, just for those who are yet to discover the insane world of Westworld.

What can we expect from season 4 of Westworld?

Twisted cowboy fans, rejoice. It has officially been confirmed by HBO that they have commissioned a fourth season of Westworld, and we couldn’t be more excited. The show’s creators have spoken out and said that the new season would be an ‘entirely new genre again’ and that ultimately, Westworld should run for five seasons. The fourth season is set to kick off right after the events of the season three finale (which, if you’ve seen it, you’ll know that we’re all hoping for a happy ending).

Catch up on seasons 1-3 of Westworld

If you’ve been meaning to check out Westworld but are yet to do so, now’s your chance to catch up on the first three seasons before the fourth hits our TV screens – on BINGE, Foxtel Now or iTunes. And if you’ve done all that, check out other shows and movies that BINGE has to offer.
