Review of iiNet broadband plans

Thanks to its effective marketing and top quality service, iiNet has become one of the most popular internet service providers in Australia. The telco’s recent purchase by TPG raised concerns that its popular products and customer service might be diluted, but for now at least life at iiNet seems very much the same, with consumers able to choose from a wide range of simple, value-packed home broadband plans, safe in the knowledge that its experts are just a call away if they need assistance.

iiNet offers a comprehensive suite of broadband plans using the whole range of modern technologies currently available today. It’s a leader, not a follower. We’ve outlined what’s included in all of iiNet’s broadband plans so you can decide whether they’re right for you. You can also compare them to offers from other providers to see if you’re getting the best value for money.

Review of iiNet mobile phone plans

What broadband services does iiNet offer?

iiNet’s main products are its Naked DSL plans, which don’t include home phone line rental, and ADSL2+ bundles which do. It also offers NBN plans in available areas, plus Cable broadband to homes in Geelong, Mildura and Ballarat.

All of iiNet’s residential broadband plans come with a number of perks – these include 1GB of webspace and 10 email addresses on the iiNet domain, email protection, 24/7 customer service and the flexibility to change plans whenever you like.

Naked DSL plans

iiNet’s Naked DSL plans are simple – ADSL broadband with a VoIP Netphone rather than a standard home phone line. There are three Naked DSL plans to choose from – the first two offer PAYG call rates on your Netphone, whilst the most expensive plan includes unlimited national and mobile calls. You can also option your plan with an international call pack for $10 per month.

You can subscribe to any plan on either a monthly or 24 month contract – the latter gives you a cheaper activation fee and the option of a free Wi-Fi modem. Check out the plans below:

Base plan Limitless Data Limitless Data
Price per month $59.99 $69.99 $79.99
Data 250GB Unlimited Unlimited
Included Netphone calls Unlimited

ADSL Bundles

iiNet’s bundled plans are very similar to the naked plans, the only differences being a traditional home phone line rental and an extra 500GB plan option – even the prices are identical on some plans. Opting for a 24 month plan, however, will completely waive your $79.99 activation fee, giving you essentially a free month’s subscription.

Unlike some other providers which charge you at higher rates if you exceed your limit, iiNet throttles your data so you don’t overspend. You can choose to buy one of five data packs, ranging from $10 for 10GB up to $80 for 200GB. Check out the ADSL bundles below:

NBN plans

If you’re lucky enough to live in area with NBN access, iiNet has a large range of plans just for you. The company offers access to three different download speed tiers – Tier 1 (12Mbps), Tier 2 (25Mbps) and the fastest Tier 5 (100Mbps). Whether you just want a basic internet connection or you want the fastest internet money can buy, iiNet can cater to you. What’s more, all NBN plans include Netphone at no extra cost. Check out the plans below:

iiNet also offers several NBN Wireless plans for Aussies living in rural areas that aren’t connected to fibre. For those living in really remote areas, iiNet is bringing in NBN Satellite plans in the near future.

Cable broadband

For those living in Geelong, Mildura and Ballarat, iiNet’s cable network can connect you up with high-speed internet. iiNet offers a 1000GB plan with maximum download speeds of 80-100Mbps – right up there with the top NBN plans. Priced at $79.99 per month, the Cable plan also includes a Netphone and unlimited national calls, and once again you can add an international call pack for $10 per month. The plan is available on a monthly or 24 month contract, and opting for the latter gets you a $100 discount on your setup fee and a free modem.

How does iiNet compare to other providers?

iiNet’s plans strike a balance between low-cost, limited plans and more expensive unlimited plans. The company faces stiff competition at both ends of the market. In terms of entry level plans, there are several other providers offering similar or better amounts of data at competitive prices, including:

At the top end of the market there are several competitors (including iiNet’s owner, TPG) which offer unlimited plans at the same price of $69.99 per month. iiNet’s plans stand out because of their included Wi-Fi modem, as well as the company’s reputation for top quality customer service which is accessible 24/7. You can check out some of the plans below:

All in all, iiNet remains an excellent choice for home broadband. Its large range of plans and supported internet technologies means that wherever you are and whatever your budget, iiNet has a plan for you at a competitive price. When you factor in the service and inclusions that come with it, iiNet certainly justifies its position as one of the biggest ISPs in Australia.
