Subaru receive inaugural 4WD/SUV customer satisfaction award

Car Awards 2013 - 4WDs / SUVSFor the first time ever, Canstar Blue has compared four wheel drive and SUV brands with our customer satisfaction ratings – and produced an award winner for 2013.

Subaru has received our Most Satisfied Customers Award for SUV and 4WDs, while also securing five star ratings for value for money, point of sale service, reliability and performance.

While the Japanese auto manufacturer was in poll position in terms of overall satisfaction, other brands also performed well in this survey:

  • Toyota was at the top of the ladder for customer service, having received five stars for point of sale and after sale service.
  • Mitsubishi received five stars for both value for money and point of sale service.

Nissan, Hyundai and Holden were the other 4WD/SUV brands rated in this survey.

Canstar Blue commissioned Colmar Brunton to survey 7,500 Australian consumers over a number of months to measure their satisfaction across a range of motoring products and services. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group – in this case, 460 people – who had bought a new 4WD or SUV from a dealership in the last three years.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.

Overall customer satisfaction

Four wheel drives are built for anything, and so motorists should seek out the brands that deliver on everything. Subaru achieved five stars for overall customer satisfaction for 4WDs and SUVs. This brand was followed by Toyota, Mitsubishi and Nissan with four stars each, and then Hyundai and Holden with three.

Value for money

Big cars can offer big value, with both Subaru and Mitsubishi customers being most satisfied with the value for money of their SUV or 4×4. Each brand received five stars, Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai followed with four, and Holden finished with three.

Point of sale service

Three 4×4 brands secured five star ratings for point of sale service: Toyota, Subaru, and Mitsubishi. Nissan followed with four stars, and Holden and Hyundai each achieved three.

After sale service

Take good care of your four wheel drive or SUV by ensuring your manufacturer has a reputation for good customer service. Toyota customers were most satisfied with the after sale service of their 4×4 or SUV brand, earning each brand a five star rating. Subaru and Mitsubishi each secured four stars, and Hyundai, Holden and Nissan all received three.

Reliability of the vehicle

Both big city and country cars need to be relied upon in any given situation; whether that situation calls for some off-roading, or transporting a car boot full of groceries. Subaru stood out for its four wheel drive reliability, earning the brand five stars. Next with four were Toyota, Mitsubishi and Nissan, then three star recipients Holden and Hyundai.

Performance of the vehicle

Need a bit of extra grunt to ford that river, or clear that hill? A powerful, smooth-running SUV or 4×4 should be at the top of your shopping list when looking for a new car. Subaru customers were most satisfied with the performance of their four wheel drive / SUV. Subaru received five stars, Nissan, Toyota and Mitsubishi followed with four, and Hyundai and Holden finished with three.
