What to watch on Netflix before it gets scrapped

Nothing lasts forever, including Netflix Australia’s licensing agreements for a wide variety of classic movies and TV shows.

While Netflix doesn’t ‘officially’ release a list of what it plans to put on the streaming chopping block every month, that doesn’t stop Internet users from heading to websites like New On Netflix to check if any of their favourite characters will be forced out the door in a few weeks’ time.

According to this particular website, classics like The Shining, Gremlins and Dirty Harry will be cut from the popular subscription streaming service by the end of July.

But fans of shows like Stranger Things, Orange Is The New Black, and House of Cards can breathe a sigh of relief as all Netflix Originals appear to be safe — well, for now.

For those who don’t have a VCR to rewatch some of these classic Blockbuster hits, be sure to binge-watch as many movies and shows to either relive or learn about some of the most iconic quotes and scenes of all time.

As you’ll eventually find out, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”.

The Shining

If you’re unsure of where the saying “Here’s Johnny” came from, or understand why the idea of twins can be deeply frightening, then take some time off to watch one of the most acclaimed horror films in history – The Shining.

Dirty Harry

“Do you feel lucky punk?” Don’t miss out on seeing Clint Eastwood in his iconic role as “Dirty” Harry Callaghan, a renegade cop willing to do anything to stop a maniac known as Scorpio. Watch Inspector Harry Callaghan and his partner Inspector Harry Callaghan work to stop Scorpio from sniping more victims and demanding ransom by leaving notes at the crime scene.

There are three things to know when owning a gremlin: “keep him out of the light”, “don’t give him any water” and “the rule you can never forget… never feed him after midnight”. Cute never looked so terrifying until 1984, when Billy Peltzer accidentally unleashed an army of dangerous gremlins after buying a furry little “mogwai” and ignoring all the advice given by its previous owner.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

The Sister of the Traveling Pants is a coming of age story about four lifelong friends who are separated for the first time and use a pair of “magic” pants to keep in touch. Over several months, each girl wears the jeans for a week to see what luck it brings before passing it on.

Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown

Anthony Bourdain’s wildly popular series is pretty much compulsory viewing. Watch the legendary chef and author travel around the world as he indulges in a colourful variety of local cuisine and culture. Unlike other food and travel shows, ‘Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown’ is meaningful and provocative. It goes beyond a basic ‘show and tell’ of well-known foods, exploring things about people and places often forgotten in mainstream media.

Claimed to be based on the experiences of co-executive producer Mark Wahlberg, Entourage has built a dedicated following over the years. The satire follows the life of Vincent Chase, a rising young actor from Queens, who now lives in Hollywood with his best buddies. But with great fame comes hilarious friends, who have no other plans but to enjoy the perks of their superstar friend.

Magic Mike XXL

Ladies, prepare the wine and cheese for a much needed girls night and to farewell Magic Mike XXL on Netflix. Spend some time with male stripper Mike (Channing Tatum) and the Kings of Tampa as they emerge from retirement to reunite one last time for an epic performance in Myrtle Beach. Watch the hunky men serve seriously impressive dance moves and follow their hilarious, sexy, and surprisingly heart-warming journey across different cities.

The Bodyguard

Before belting out “I Have Nothing on the day The Bodyguard is expected to leave Netflix”, don’t forget there’s still a few days left to serenade Whitney Houston with “I Will Always Love You” through the computer screen. Revisit some of the most romantic and suspenseful moments in movie history when Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner), a former Secret Service agent, hesitantly accepts an assignment to protect pop superstar Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston) from a disturbed unknown stalker.
