In the table below, the annual cost assumptions are based on the Australian Gas Network in Melbourne. This comparison assumes general gas usage of 29,830MJ a year for a residential customer. Price changes could be the result of an increase or decrease in usage or supply rates, or changes to a discount.

EnergyAustralia

EnergyAustralia logo

EnergyAustralia has introduced a range of bill credits to gas plans in VIC, NSW and SA. Customers in NSW who sign up to EnergyAustralia will now bag $75 off their first bill, while customers in VIC and SA will receive a once off bill credit of $50. These credits apply to both gas products – Total Plan and No Frills. There has also been a slight decrease in discounts on the Total Plan products in NSW and SA, while the discount on the Total Plan offer in the ACT has increased.

Simply Energy

In WA, Simply Energy has introduced two new plans, Simply Energy Saver and NRMA Blue. These two offers in WA have replaced the Simply Plus plan. Simply Energy Saver comes with a huge 50% off usage charges when bills are paid on time for a limited time only, while NRMA Blue comes with a 49% pay on time discount off usage charges. In VIC, the Simply NRMA Blue has launched, which comes with a 21% discount off usage and supply charges. In SA, the existing Simply RAA plan has increased its discount from 9% to 12%, although despite the larger discount, the overall price has risen slightly.

Alinta Energy

Alinta Energy has removed its Fair Go 25 product in Western Australia. Instead, the retailer offers the Fair Go 35 and Sports Pack gas plans in WA.

Simply Energy

Simply Energy logo

Simply Energy has reduced the discount from 20% to 16% on its ‘Simply Energy Saver’ plan in Victoria, resulting in a price increase. However, the 16% discount still applies to both gas usage and supply charges, plus does not require customers do satisfy any conditions (i.e. pay on time).

GloBird Energy

GloBird has shuffled its prices in Victoria on its two market offers – EasySave and GloSave. Both deals are now cheaper thanks to a decrease in the gas usage and supply rates.

AGL

In NSW, AGL has changed its usage and supply rates on the Essentials and Essentials Saver gas plans. The retailer has also introduced a $50 sign-up credit, however both plans have increased in overall price. No other price changes were recorded for AGL outside of NSW.

Red Energy

Red Energy logo

Red Energy has reduced its rates on the Living Energy Saver, Qantas Red Saver and Red Taronga Saver gas plans in New South Wales. The Australian energy provider has also launched in the ACT, offering customers in the nation’s capital a range of gas plans.

Sumo

Sumo has removed its ‘Sumo Select’ and ‘Sumo Saver’ plans from NSW and Victoria. The Sumo Assure, Sumo Lite and Sumo Freedom are now the gas supplier’s three market offers available in NSW and VIC.

Lumo Energy

Lumo Energy has decreased its gas usage rates in Victoria, which has seen its Basic and Movers plans reduce in price. Both of these plans have no discounts or exit fees.

AGL

In the wake of July 1 changes, AGL has made a raft of changes to its natural gas plans in Victoria, NSW, WA, SA and QLD. The energy giant has also introduced its ‘Essentials’ gas product to NSW, SA and QLD, which was only previously available in Victoria. This deal comes with fixed gas rates for a year, as opposed to its variable-rate counterpart – the Essentials Saver.

Momentum Energy

Momentum Energy has decreased its gas rates again in Victoria, with three of its four market offers now being much cheaper. ‘Bill Boss’ is currently Momentum’s cheapest gas plan in VIC, however customers must have a smart meter installed at their property to sign up.

Alinta Energy

Alinta Energy has launched gas in Queensland with the ‘Home Deal’ and ‘Sports Pack’ products. Home Deal is a no discount plan, offering competitive variable rates, while Sports Pack is only available to customers on an active Sports Pack electricity plan.

Momentum Energy

In Victoria, Momentum has changed the rates on its ‘Move Mate’ and ‘Momentum Gas’ plans, resulting in a significant price increase. Its new cheapest offer in VIC is the ‘Self Serve’ product, which is available to customers who sign up online and pay by direct debit. Momentum has also introduced a plan called ‘Bill Boss’ in VIC, which is aimed at households with smart meters.

GloBird Energy

GloBird Energy has lowered its usage rates on the ‘EasySave’ and ‘GloSave’ gas plans in Victoria, making them currently one of the cheapest deals in the state. EasySave has no discounts, just low rates, while GloSave gives customers discounts for paying on time by direct debit.

AGL

In Western Australia, AGL has reduced its discount on two of its gas market offers, ‘Set and Forget’ and ‘Savers’. While the discounts now apply to both usage and supply charges instead of just the usage portion, the discount reduction has seen a significant price increase for both plans.

Simply Energy

Simply Energy has increased the pay on time discounts on each of its three market offers in Victoria. Simply Plus recorded the biggest discount increase from 12% to 22%, making it now one of the cheapest gas deals in VIC. The conditional discount on Simply AFL and Simply Movies changed from 5% to 10%. The pay on time discounts apply to both usage and supply charges.

AGL

AGL has decreased its online sign-up discounts in NSW and QLD from $75 to $25 on both the Essentials Saver and Essentials Plus gas plans. This has resulted in price increases in NSW and QLD by $50. AGL still remains competitively priced in both states, however.

Momentum Energy

In Victoria, Momentum Energy has decreased the rates of two of its plans, namely ‘Momentum Gas’ and ‘Move Mate’. Both of these plans come with a $50 online sign-up credit and now work out slightly cheaper than its ‘Self Serve’ gas product in VIC.

Click Energy

Click Energy has introduced a new gas plan in Victoria, named ‘Flora Gas’, which is currently the provider’s cheapest gas deal in VIC. Flora Gas has no exit fees or discounts, just low rates. This deal comes with a monthly billing option. Click Energy has also removed its ‘Banksia Plus’ gas plan from VIC.

Sumo

In NSW, Sumo has introduced a small connection fee to its natural gas plans. As a result, Sumo’s plans in NSW, including Sumo Select, Sumo Lite and Sumo Saver have increased slightly in price.

Origin Energy

The price of Origin Energy’s Max Saver plan in Victoria has reduced due to its conditional discount increasing from 12% to 20%. The Max Saver product has been renamed to ‘Max Saver – Online Special’ across VIC, NSW and QLD. Origin’s ‘Flexi’ product has also increased its discount in VIC, NSW and QLD, all of which are now slightly cheaper. There have been no gas changes to Origin’s plans in WA or SA.

GloBird Energy

GloBird Energy has increased the prices of its two gas market offers in Victoria for households connected to the Australian Gas Network (AGN). The EasySave and GloSave products have experienced a notable rise in annual overall price. GloSave still has a 5% pay on time discount, plus an additional 1% discount for paying by direct debit, while EasySave requires customers to opt in for direct debit with credit card and receive bills and communication electronically.
