Battery Booster Solar Rebate QLD

Up to $4,000 in solar battery rebates now available to QLD households

Households in the sunshine state may now be eligible for a solar battery rebate of up to $4,000, thanks to a new state government initiative.

As part of the newly-launched Battery Booster program, the Queensland Government is giving eligible QLD homeowners between $3,000 and $4,000 off the purchase of a new solar battery that is six-kilowatt hours (kWh) or larger.

The largest rebates will be on offer to low-income households and can be used to install a solar battery for a completely new or existing solar panel system. However, the solar panel system must be at least five kilowatts (kW) in size to be eligible.

Energy Minister Mick de Brenni said the program was aimed at helping Queenslanders keep their electricity bills down by making the most of the state’s sunny weather.

“We know that all Queenslanders are passionate about taking action on climate and lowering their energy costs and that’s why we’ve targeted this program specifically at those households who may not have previously considered purchasing a solar battery,” he said.

The program is now taking applications with about 2,000 rebates available to households.

To be eligible, households must have a combined income of less than $180,000. Only one rebate will be applicable per household.

For the full terms and conditions, it is best to visit the QLD Government’s website.

Am I eligible for the Battery Booster program?

The Battery Booster program is open to QLD households with a combined income of less than $180,000 per year. The rebate amount awarded will differ depending on the income amount of the household.

A rebate of up to $4,000 could be on offer to households where the highest income earner earned $66,667 or less for the most recently ended financial year. For all other eligible households, a rebate of up to $3,000 is on offer.

Households must apply for the program and receive a conditional letter of approval before installing their battery system in order to receive an eligible rebate.

To be approved for the program, alongside the income eligibility requirements, households will also need to confirm that:

  • They are the owner of the QLD property where they wish to install the solar battery
  • If they have a solar system already installed, it is of 5kW or larger in capacity. If they are installing a new solar system as part of the battery installation, it will also need to be within this size limit.
  • They are installing a solar battery from the QLD Government’s approved list that is 6kWh or larger.
  • They are using an approved solar installer that is registered on the QLD Government’s approved installer list. Please note, the installer will need to be on the approved list at the time of conditional rebate approval and the actual installation.
  • They received a quote for their battery purchase on or after 12 February, 2024.

Households will also need to agree to a safety inspection during the installation, which is to be carried out by a government-appointed inspector.
