Save up to 50% on Netflix streaming with Optus

Optus customers looking for a cheap deal on streaming can now grab a sweet, limited-time Netflix discount – as long as you’re happy to roll your subscription on to your phone or internet bill.

Sign up to Netflix via Optus’ SubHub streaming and subscription platform, and you’ll score up to 50% off your plan for your first three months. The offer is available for customers who subscribe to Standard or Premium Netflix plans, provided you haven’t already used SubHub to access the streaming service.

Optus’ deal brings the cost of a Standard plan to $8.50 per month for three months (then $16.99 per month ongoing), and the Premium plan to $14.50 monthly for three months (then $22.99 each month ongoing). As there’s no lock-in contracts or minimum terms, customers are free to switch their Netflix plan after the three-month introductory discount, or cancel their service altogether.

If you’re a current Netflix subscriber, you’ll still be eligible for the deal – provided you didn’t sign up for your plan through Optus SubHub. You can migrate your existing Netflix account to SubHub to qualify for the discount, with the only change being that your streaming fees will be rolled on to your Optus bill.

Optus said the promotion allows customers to access streamed content at a lower price, while offering the convenience of managing multiple subscription services from a single hub.

“At Optus, we understand the rising cost of living is a concern and we want to give our customers the choice to spend smarter, so if you’re thinking Netflix, think Optus,” said Brendan Collogan, Head of SubHub at Optus.

Optus’ half-price Netflix offer is well-timed, with the streaming giant kicking off its much-maligned password sharing crackdown in Australia from May 24.

Netflix is utilising new technology to identify which users are sharing account access across multiple IP addresses. Freeloaders who aren’t located in an account’s main household will have their access revoked, but paying customers will have the option of adding extra members to their plan for an additional $7.99 per month.
