This smart innovation is the helping hand we all need in the kitchen.

Smeg’s Galileo Multi-Cooking Technology received Canstar Blue’s Innovation Excellence Award (Kitchen Appliances) for 2022. This award recognises smart innovations in home appliances and consumer electronics and is awarded based on Canstar Blue’s sophisticated rating methodology under which winners are scored on a range of factors, including whether the product is unique and how disruptive it is to its product category. Other factors considered are affordability, ease of use and impact on the average consumer.

Managing Director for Smeg Australia, Wayne Campbell, said: “We are elated to receive this award in acknowledgment of our dedicated efforts to revolutionise cooking in Australian homes. Smeg Galileo, our greatest technological feat to date, represents our Italian heritage through excellence in design and innovation, employing professional algorithms to redefine the culinary experience with the power of seven cooking combinations offering maximum performance with outstanding results.”

What is Smeg’s Galileo Multi-Cooking Technology?

Smeg Galileo Multi-Cooking Technology

The new-generation Smeg Galileo Multi-Cooking Technology represents a huge leap forward in oven cooking, with a specific focus on quality textures, and nutrients/flavour retention. The new technology from Smeg can offer up to seven cooking technologies in one oven (in selected models), but otherwise combines three different ways of cooking: traditional oven cooking, microwave, and steam cooking. Each of these methods brings new possibilities to how a home cook can prepare, heat, and finish dishes. Depending on the model, users can choose to use each of these methods singly, sequentially, or simultaneously, to tailor their cooking for every meal without switching appliances.

The three different Smeg ovens that boast Galileo Multi-Cooking Technology include:

  • OmniChef
  • SpeedWave
  • SteamGeneration

Each appliance comes in either, the Dolce Stil Novo or Linea aesthetics, a signature design of the Smeg line. The Smeg Galileo Multi-Cooking Technology range can fetch prices up to $10,000 RRP.

What we like about Smeg’s Galileo Multi-Cooking Technology

Smeg’s Galileo Multi-Cooking Technology is a game changer when it comes to making a meal in the kitchen. The new line boasts many impressive innovations, which transform the way home cooks can use their oven to create restaurant-quality meals at home, something many of us aspire to do for families and loved ones.

Combined cooking technologies

Smeg is one of the very few brands in the market that offers multiple cooking technologies in one oven and with such high manufacturing quality. Smeg’s Galileo Multi-Cooking Technology brings together traditional oven cooking, microwave, and steam cooking, as well as additional barbeque, air fry, stone cooking, and sous vide (in selected models only). This allows home cooks to do away with unnecessary appliances that take up space in the kitchen, with the ability to brown meats, heat-up leftover meals, steam vegetables, sizzle steaks, make fries and prepare a pizza all in the same oven.

“Judges assessed this innovation from Smeg as disruptive with a significant ‘wow’ factor and recognised the all-in-one solution paired with the range of features and cooking assistance would have a significant impact on home cooks,” said Canstar Blue’s Home & Lifestyle Editor, Megan Birot.

The cavity in the Smeg Galileo Multi-Cooking Technology range was designed to prevent heat loss and with sustainability in mind; it’s said to reduce energy consumption by 10% and cooking times by up to 70% (when using a combination of cooking methods), without compromising on quality. Smeg promises users can cook a perfectly roasted chook in 30 minutes with this new technology. This can be achieved in part thanks to the redesign of the oven cavity, which includes innovative airflow patterns to spread heat, as well as the ability to cook in multiple ways at once.

This new technology by Smeg also allows consumers to master complicated or multi-stage recipes with the Multistep function. Smeg also includes sophisticated algorithms to enhance the oven’s capabilities. For notoriously complicated recipes consumers can ‘set and forget,’ relying on the Sametime function to tell them at what stage their food should be put in and rely on the algorithms to measure the temperature in three different places within the food. Based on these readings the oven will adjust the heat to deliver an even cook throughout.

Pre-set recipes and accessories

Smeg’s Galileo Multi-Cooking Technology has over 150 recipes with its smart cooking function, suited for meats, fish, first courses, and desserts. Once a recipe is selected, the oven will offer users control over parameters like weight, timing, and the type of cooking the dish requires.

Market equivalents like some Miele premium ovens offer pre-set functions, but not quite to the extent of Smeg’s new line, which eliminates the middle man by presenting the pre-sets in an easy-to-use system within the appliance. The extensive pre-sets are the perfect segue for home cooks still learning to use the combined methods within the oven, allowing them to achieve the results without requiring the intricacies of the techniques.

“This all-in-one solution would have a significant impact on home cooks.”
