A German brand, Braun is a manufacturer and seller of various consumer products, including kitchen appliances and oral, beauty and grooming items. Among the company’s grooming products are its electric shavers, which it first started designing back in the 1930s.
Braun has five different series of electric shaver, which vary in price and features – Series 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7, plus its MobileShave line. Braun also sells a Clean & Renew system for use with its electric shavers, although the higher-end appliances already come with a cleaning centre.
A brief history of the company
Braun was created in 1921 when Max Braun established a small engineering shop in Frankfurt, out of which he began producing radio set components. The company soon progressed to producing entire radio sets, and soon after became one of Germany’s leading radio manufacturers.
Later on in the century, Braun moved into the production of audio equipment, becoming well-known for its record players. In 1954, the company began its production of film slide projectors, a product that would form a mainstay of its business for the next several decades. In 1967 a majority of the company was acquired by Gillette, and since 1984 Braun has remained a Gillette subsidiary.
By the 1970s Braun was focusing on home consumer appliances such as coffee makers, clocks, and radios, and soon after discontinued its production of film slide projectorsand hi-fi products.
In 2005, the company was indirectly acquired by Procter & Gamble, after the latter acquired Gillette. In 2012, Delonghi purchased the rights to manufacture and sell Braun-branded kitchen appliances.
