Electric vehicle (EV) owners in New South Wales could soon see the cost of charging their vehicle on the go slashed thanks to an upcoming offer from leading utilities provider AGL and oil company BP.

In a new agreement between AGL and BP Pulse – the company’s EV charging network – eligible customers in NSW on AGL’s EV home charging plan will soon benefit from discounted charging rates at participating BP Pulse locations across the company’s fuel stations in the state.

The offer is set to become available in the coming months, following changes to AGL’s EV home energy plan from July 1.

AGL Chief Customer Officer Jo Egan said the new agreement hopes to make charging for EV owners simple and affordable, whilst helping to reduce range anxiety along the way.

“The agreement aligns with AGL’s focus on supporting the electrification of transportation in Australia, enabling the shift to an electric vehicle to be easy for our customers,” she said. “We are looking to build a seamless charging experience for electric vehicle drivers to help ensure charging is simple, accessible, and affordable – whether that is at home or on-the-go.

“The agreement recognises the pivotal role we play in shaping Australia’s future. As we transition to a low-carbon future, this agreement will empower our customers with innovative, sustainable and cost-effective EV charging solutions.”

In addition to discounted charging, AGL and BP together hope to explore and collaborate on further deployment of public charging infrastructure.

BP Pulse Asia-Pacific Vice President Sujay Sharma said BP wants to make it easier for people to transition to electric through its agreement with AGL.

“We’re putting the customer at the heart of our strategy; installing a fast and convenient EV charging network in key metropolitan and regional locations across Australia, and now, through this agreement, eligible AGL customers can take advantage of special rates to charge with BP Pulse in New South Wales.”

The AGL and BP Pulse agreement will be in place for three years.

Further details on this special charging offer for NSW customers are set to follow in the coming months.

What else does AGL offer households?

Alongside speciality offers for EV owners, AGL also offers a range of electricity, natural gas and NBN products to households across NSW, Victoria, south-east Queensland and South Australia.

Its electricity and natural gas offers come with variable rates, with varying benefit periods, depending on the plan in question. Some plans however, do offer cheaper rates for customers willing to agree to e-communications with AGL. There are also specialty plans on offer to eligible seniors and households with solar panels.

As for the retailer’s NBN offers, these come with unlimited data across NBN 25, 50, 100, 250 and 1000 plans. All of AGL’s NBN plans also come with no lock-in contracts and the option to add a modem.

Households can also earn additional credits on their bills for bundling their home energy and internet with AGL.
