Foxtel to offer free channels during pandemic isolation

As the pandemic continues and more people are spending time at home, streaming and working, companies are making moves to ensure entertainment at home is fair for everyone and plentiful in content.

The latest development in companies taking action comes from Foxtel. To cater for the increase in demand, Foxtel is actively increasing the benefits of subscribers. Foxtel is providing free channels and multi-screen access to users, along with unlimited internet data for customers connected to Foxtel Broadband and Foxtel NBN.

What do I get?

If you’re a Foxtel customer, you’ve just scored yourself access to Foxtel’s range of Drama, Entertainment, Kids TV, Reality shows, Documentaries and Lifestyle content.

What’s more is that three screens can now watch Foxtel simultaneously with “Multiscreen” – so somebody can be watching Watchmen in one room, and another can be watching Chernobyl in another.

If you’re subscribed to Foxtel Now, you’ll get access to Drama Extra, Docos, Pop, Lifestyle and Kids added to your selection of content to watch.

“We’re all in this together and we want them to know that Foxtel is there for them,” Foxtel Group Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Delaney, said.

“These initiatives provide customers with an even better entertainment experience in their homes with more content, access on more screens and more data, all at no extra charge.”

Your free Foxtel upgrade is available from 26 March, through to 31 May, 2020. If you’ve already subscribed to some or all of Foxtel’s optional add-on channels, you unfortunately won’t receive an account credit for the free access period.

Be prepared!

Will there be more announcements to come?

There’s a huge chance this isn’t going to be the last thing in a so far long line of internet-related announcements because of the pandemic.

Last week, the Australian Government wrote to Netflix and Stan asking them to reduce the amount of bandwidth their services consumed so that the NBN wouldn’t be too harshly affected.

Since then, PlayStation has announced they’ll be lowering their download speeds in Europe, with more territories to be announced, and the pandemic has had a massive impact on video game popularity.

Facebook, Instagram and YouTube have also announced they’ll be cutting down video quality so that everybody gets a similar experience.
