Flip offering unlimited NBN 12 data for just $39.90

Just last week, we reported on NBN provider Flip’s Price Beat Guarantee: a promise to offer the cheapest unlimited data NBN 12 plan in Australia. With unlimited basic NBN pricing already at just $49.90 per month, Flip’s existing plan was near-unbeatable.

Now, Flip has launched a related limited-time promotion for new and current customers. Sign up now, and you can score unlimited data on the NBN 12 speed tier for only $39.90 per month – with no lock-in contracts, connection costs, or surprise fees.

Flip’s NBN 12 deal

Flip’s super-cheap NBN deal is available from today (September 5) and while’s there’s no real ‘catch’, there’s a few conditions you should be aware of before jumping on board. The offer will be available only to the first 1,000 new or existing customers who sign up for Flip’s NBN 12 Value plan with unlimited monthly data, and only if you’re happy to pre-pay for your first two months upfront.

This means that you’ll need to pay $79.80 outright at sign-up to cover the first two months of your plan. However, doing so means you’ll get Flip’s discounted $39.90 monthly price ongoing, even without a lock-in contract.

Flip’s NBN 12 plan is offered at Basic Evening Speeds, with a typical evening speed of 10Mbps in peak hours (between 7pm – 10pm). If you’re an individual user, you’re not interested in high definition video streaming, and you want a no-fuss NBN solution, NBN 12 speeds should be fast enough to cover your daily broadband needs.

The following table shows all published standard Flip NBN plans on Canstar Blue’s database, listed in order of monthly cost, from the lowest to highest, then by data allowance, largest to smallest. Aside from the $79.80 pre-purchase price, there’s nothing else to pay upfront if you decide to bring your own modem. If you’d prefer to purchase a pre-configured NBN-ready modem directly from Flip, you can pick up the TP-Link Archer VR500v from $129 outright, plus $20 delivery.

Flip charges no other setup fees on month-to-month plans, and no cancellation fees (besides all regular billing charges due when your service ends). Overall, if you’re looking for a seriously affordable basic NBN deal (and you’re happy to pay for your first two months upfront), this could be the plan for you.

Goodbye contracts, hello discounts

Flip’s offer accompanies the telco’s decision to scrap all 12-month contracts for NBN customers. From today, all new customers can select from two payment options for all Flip NBN plans listed above: a standard, month-to-month deal with no lock-in contracts, or a pay-in-advance plan with an ongoing $5 monthly discount.

If you opt for the regular monthly plan with no upfront costs, you’ll pay the below standard monthly price for your speed tier:

  • $49.90 for Value 12 (Basic Evening Speed)
  • $64.90 for NBN 50 (Standard Plus Evening Speed)
  • $99.90 for NBN 100 (Premium Evening Speed)

Alternatively, decide to pay your first two months in advance, and you’ll instead pay the following each month:

  • $44.90 for NBN 12 (Basic Evening Speed), excluding the $39.90 deal
  • $59.90 for NBN 50 (Standard Plus Evening Speed)
  • $94.90 for NBN 100 (Premium Evening Speed)

If you’d prefer not to prepay, but still want to give Flip’s basic NBN service a try, then you can sign up for the regular price of $49.90 per month. You’ll still be eligible for Flip’s Price Beat Guarantee – so if you do find a cheaper standard NBN 12 plan with unlimited monthly data, Flip will beat it by 5%.

However, keep in mind that families, people who love high-definition Netflix and YouTube, and heavier internet users in general may struggle with Flip’s entry-level Value 12 plan. If you’re after something faster – but still want unlimited data for a competitive monthly price – you may prefer to upgrade to Flip’s Family 50 or Fast 100 plans, and grab your $5 per-month discount by paying in advance.

In addition to NBN plans, Flip also offers home phone extras, including call packs from $2.95 per month. International IPTV packages are also available, via Flip’s set-top box; channel packs include Chile/South America, Croatia, Bosnia, Japan, Macedonia, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, and Vietnam, with prices starting from $12.95 per month.
