One of Australia’s largest energy retailers has partnered with A-League side Melbourne Victory to offer club members an exclusive power deal for the season.
The new AGL product, aptly named ‘Melbourne Victory’, is both an electricity and natural gas plan, and is available to both residential and small business customers – not just in Victoria, but across all of the states that the retailer serves.
It is available to all Melbourne Victory club members, which last season stood at 27,000. The new A-League season is set to get underway later this month (October).
The Melbourne Victory product applies AGL’s standard rates and includes a large pay on time discount off usage charges. It has a one-year benefit period and there are no exit fees for customers that might want to leave.
According to Energy Made Easy, AGL’s Melbourne Victory plan is currently the retailer’s cheapest electricity and natural gas deal across each state. However, it comes with variable rates, which could be changed at the retailer’s discretion.
For solar customers, the Melbourne Victory offers a feed-in tariff of between 10.6c and 16.3c per kWh, depending on where you live. It also has GreenPower options between 10% and 100% for households interested in minimising their environmental impact.
Both the electricity and natural gas Melbourne Victory products have flexible billing options, including monthly billing. Payment options include paper bills, direct debit, credit card and BPay.
Melbourne Victory members who switch to AGL’s exclusive offer also receive $10 credit towards their bill for every Victory home game they attend during the 2018-19 season.
There are 14 home games this season, meaning Melbourne Victory members with AGL can receive up to $140 power credit. Customers must scan their AGL member ID at the stadium gates before home games in order to receive these credits.

Melbourne Victory Eligibility
In order to be eligible for AGL’s Melbourne Victory energy product, you need to:
- Be a Melbourne Victory 2018-19 season member.
- Have an AGL VIP plan active account and Melbourne Victory FC membership up until the end of the 2018-19 A-League season.
- Scan the membership ID card number supplied at every home game. This is in order to receive the credits on your AGL account for attending a game.
Is the Melbourne Victory plan right for me?
If you’re an AGL customer and also happen to be a Melbourne Victory club member this season, then the Melbourne Victory energy deal is almost a no-brainer. What is less clear, however, is whether or not the deal is worth switching retailers for.
While the Melbourne Victory deal is flexible and competitively-priced, the discounts are conditional and customers only receive the bonus credits if they attend home games. If you often fail to pay your bill on time and you’re not confident you can make it to many games this season, then you might be better off on another product with AGL or another retailer. As always, the best deal for you will depend on your personal situation.
