What is the Flexi Saver?
The Flexi Saver from EnergyAustralia, as the name suggests, is designed to be a flexible energy option. The Flexi Saver doesn’t include any exit fees, meaning customers can come and go without the risk of being locked into in a long-term contract. The Flexi Saver also includes a large discount on electricity usage charges when customers pay their bills in full and on time, so it pays to keep on top of your bill.
The Flexi Saver has a benefit period of 12 months, which means customers will lose their discount one year after signing up unless they renegotiate a new deal. The Flexi Saver is also a variable rate contract, which means that EnergyAustralia can change your rates at any time.

Is Flexi Saver a lock in contract?
There are no early-termination or exit fees with the Flexi Saver plan. That means you’re free to leave whenever you like. The confusion many customers experience is that EnergyAustralia refers to this deal as a ‘contract with a 12 month benefit period’. This doesn’t mean that you’re locked into the contract for one year – it simply means the discount only lasts for 12 months after you sign up. You will continue as an EnergyAustralia customer after the discount expires and you may be put you on a new deal with another discount.
Will my rates change on the Flexi Saver?
The Flexi Saver is on a variable rate as opposed to a fixed rate, which means EnergyAustralia is allowed to change your rates. EnergyAustralia says its rates are generally adjusted annually and customers will be notified before this happens. In QLD, SA and NSW, you can generally expect the Flexi Saver rates to change on July 1. In Victoria, rate changes typically occur on January 1.

Is the Flexi Saver right for me?
The value in market offers like this lies in the discount – the Flexi Saver is only really a good deal if you’re disciplined enough to consistently pay your bills on time, as missing out on the discount could leave you paying hundreds of dollars more per year on electricity. We should also mention that the Flexi Saver is not always EnergyAustralia’s cheapest electricity deal in QLD, NSW, SA and VIC – that title often goes to the Secure Saver – a two-year fixed rate contract. Once again, in order to receive this discount, customers must pay their bills in full and on time. The No Frills plans from EA also works out one of the cheapest despite having no conditional discount.
Alternatively, if you occasionally fall behind with your energy bills, then you might be better-suited to EnergyAustralia’s ‘Anytime Saver’. The Anytime Saver gives customers a small guaranteed discount that applies regardless of when or how you pay your power bills. The Anytime Saver is often more expensive than the Secure Saver and Flexi Saver, but it could prove convenient if you sometimes struggle to pay your bills on time.
Finally, don’t forget the Flexi Saver discount only applies for one year. EnergyAustralia says it will notify you before your discount disappears, but you should take the opportunity to shop around and make sure you’re still receiving a good deal on electricity. The Flexi Saver does not lock you in, so you’re totally free to switch retailers if you spot a better deal.
