Snowed under with thoughts of your incoming winter power bills? Well, OVO Energy may just have a new deal to help you keep toasty this winter without breaking the bank on heating costs.
The provider is currently offering a whopping $190 in electricity bill credit to new customers in New South Wales, Victoria, south-east Queensland and South Australia.
The credit is applicable on the retailer’s The One Plan or The Basic Plan in each respective state. The amount will be paid to customers over 12 monthly installments worth $15.84, to make a total of $190 in bill credit.
The One Plan is OVO Energy’s flagship deal and offers customers variable rates on a no lock-in contract. GreenPower options are also available, however these may come at an additional cost. Customers on The One Plan will also need to agree to paying via direct debit to be eligible.
The Basic Plan, which is exclusive to Victorians, is fairly similar except direct debit is not required.
To cash in on this credit, households simply need to sign up to one of the above offers online and stay connected with OVO Energy for at least 12 months to be eligible. For the full terms and conditions, it is best to visit the OVO Energy website.

Is OVO Energy worth the switch?
OVO Energy has been a serious contender in the Aussie energy market since 2019, when it hailed over from the UK. The retailer is known for offering competitive pricing and greener energy opportunities for households in Australia. Arguably its biggest selling point however, is its bill smoothing, which reduces the likelihood of bill shock for customers. OVO Energy is one of few energy retailers to offer this billing feature as standard to households.
Canstar Blue Utilities Editor Tara Donnelly said bill smoothing through OVO Energy could be attractive to customers concerned of incoming winter heating costs.
“OVO Energy could be appealing to those households looking for some consistency in their energy bills over the coming cooler months, particularly as usage may increase to offset the change in climate,” she said.
“Bill smoothing doesn’t mean that households are paying less for power, but rather that their electricity costs are averaged out over a 12-month period, using usage estimates, to help make paying their monthly bills more manageable. This, in addition to a generous bill credit, could be a good incentive to switch for some households.”
OVO Energy also offers to pay 3% interest on any credit balances accrued if households end up paying more one month than they needed to. There are no interest rates on customer debts though.
